What about the Boss Window? What does she do?

Do the windows retaliate?
No; they're just windows. The city authorities retaliate on their behalf, however.

You should have people in their apartments that throw like... books and trash at you when you break their window.

Also a rattlesnake.

Are there window cleaners on this building? I don't think they would agree with your actions very much.

They would love your actions. If they were paid in advance.
As made obvious by signs on their backs.
If they weren't paid in advance, they will attempt to throw all of their equipment at you, and if otherwise, they will shrug it off and wheel themselves away, like any sensible American window washer would do.

But window repairmen will hate you either way.

And thus would come the new sequel, where you play as one of the window repairmen, who leads a rebellion against the player in this one, in vengeance of his destruction. It'd be called Half-Glass.

it feels pretty good i mean it gets kinda tedious after a while i think there should be less time, less windows, and more things trying to kill you

that way the difficulty lies more in speed and skill rather than in patience

I agree on a few points of Rokuji's.

The repetitiveness does start to show - I enjoyed the level with the clock, however (ie - more unique graphics).
Well done on the menu, etc.
Depending on what kind of gameplay you're going for? You could make it more strategical; get the perfect speedrun, etc - or harder; more enemies.

Nicely done, so far.

I most highly agree on both of these points, now that I think of it.
Though I do tend to spell character 'character'.  Wink

Yeah, I know. I will fix this - indeed, I meant to in the last update, but forgot. I'm in the middle of moving across the country, so a fix may not come too quickly. I will fix it before release, though. But - what would be the best way to do it? Should I make the character a different color? This is the only reasonable solution I can think of, really, unless there's something I'm not thinking of.

Your score is dependent on how much time you have left at the end of each level, so it is basically a bunch of speed running. Is this not made clear enough? And is this a compelling enough goal?

it feels pretty good i mean it gets kinda tedious after a while i think there should be less time, less windows, and more things trying to kill you

So the time limits are too high? It is difficult for me to adjust that sort of thing, because I am very good at the game myself. And you think smaller levels with harder enemies would be more enjoyable? Me, I think the game is pretty skill-based as-is... it starts out slowly, but the later levels are very hard. And patience is a sort of skill in itself. And it seems a little late to completely change the structuring of the levels now, although I guess it wouldn't be hard, given that the whole thing is programmed in a way that makes stuff really easy to change [/proud of myself].

If the game feels tedious, this is a problem. The whole idea of the game is that the experience of destroying the windows is rewarding in itself - it feels visceral, fun, etc. because for me, in shooting games, I often enjoy shooting windows more than the game itself. So if this is not how it feels, that is a problem. What else can I do? I  already beefed up the sound, added screen flashing and shaking... what else do I need to do?

I kind of intended this game to be a quickie, but I'd rather do it right than just push it out the door, which is what I've been guilty of in the past. I've yet to have a single person's response be, "wow, this is fun," so it's not done yet.

When i suggested less time i meant in conjunction with less windows, for the amount of stuff you have the time limit  is good

Oh. Okay.

So more, shorter levels?

I personally kind of enjoy the levels that have a ton of crap on them, because it's really satisfying to systematically clean them out. But if this is not very enjoyable for other people - the whole point of a game like this is to be fun.

What do other people think?

A different colour character in conjunction with an increase of the window size should probably do the trick.

Or possibly adding an outline to the character might make him standout more.As long as it doesn't clash with the graphics too much.

I think making the windows break faster would be good. I think I recall something Cactus did in his lecture about game making where he showed enemies that took a long time to kill and enemies that died in just a few hits, and the one where the enemies died faster was a lot more fun. I think this is one of those cases.

The other problem that others have pointed out was that the character does indeed blend in with the smoke.

Nicely coded though. Feels smooth and seems like it would get a lot more fun later on.

The only thing that killed me regularly, was falling off of the bottom of the level when trying to get to the lower windows.

W/ regards to killing lots of weak enemies vs a few strong enemies - the windows feel somewhere in the middle.
Both of those ^ are rewarding, but the windows feel just a little out of each category, other than the clock, which was a 'boss' window.

In my opinion.

This game was made by me, Jabberwock, based on a dream I had. The game itself was put together in Game Maker 6.1 by Mark Overmars. Sound effects were made using DrPetter's SFXR and an old version of Cool Edit Pro. Music was composed in Skale Tracker and plays in-game thanks to FMOD (www.fmod.org) and JBFMOD (by M. Rijks). Graphics were drawn in Microsoft Paint.

Don't worry about it, it's completely understandable that you wouldn't read the README  Naughty.
