Grief is a puzzle platformer in which you take the role of a young girl struggling to find clarity within the depths of her own mind. The game features twenty levels, starting off easy but quickly growing quite challenging.The main feature of the game is that you switch between optimism and pessimism to solve puzzles. The girl's abilities will be improved/restricted depending on which state you are currently in.
Alongside the basic OP/PS engine, there are a number of obstacles that both aid and hold you back. You must use them to their fullest potentials in order to complete each level.
Grief does not feature a saving system. Think of it like the old super mario bros games. Sure, you have to beat the game in one go, but it makes you that much stronger in doing so!
The tutorial is integrated, and you'll learn along the way. However, there are some in-game options such as B, N and M to turn on/off particles, sfx and music respectively. Escape pauses the game, for when you need to go do... other things.
Grief has two endings, depending on whether or not you complete a certain act within the game. Play time is about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, depending on your puzzle talent.

The art style and atmosphere are incredibly immersive and do a fine job filling the player with a sense of loss and hopelessness, even when the game is cheerful. The gameplay itself starts off simple but gets surprisingly tricky about halfway through, and really tries the player's patience at some points (which kinda suits the theme). I especially like the bipolar swinging back and forth between hopeful and distraught. Worth checking out, if you don't mind feeling a little heartbroken while you play.
